You might think that it looks a little bit like Scrabble and it does have a few similarities. It is a word game and the pieces look the same, also the aim of the game is to create words. Vuvuzela stadium horns came to world wide attention during the Soccer World Cup competition in South Africa in June of 2010. They are used like trumpets and can produce a very loud sound. So in this respect they are not so much one of the best toys but rather one of the most annoying toys.

To be honest, I think they are a little bit dangerous for kids to play with. We all know we did silly stuff when we were younger but if you blow a vuvuzela into someone’s ear there is a real chance that they will suffer from hearing loss. So in my opinion these are not so much toys but instruments. They should certainly be used responsibly. Therefore you have to make a personal judgement about whether or not it is a good idea to buy a vuvuzela for your son.

The good news is that if you decide to get a vuvuzela then they are actually quite cheap. If you look on Amazon, you will  see that they are offering very low prices for these novelty toys. The question you have to ask yourself is, how annoyed will I become listening to a vuvuzela horn?

This is the reason why I will not purchase a vuvuzela for my son. However, they might be really good to take to sporting events as they can contribute to a noisy and lively atmosphere. You should check that it is okay to take one of these instruments to the stadium you go to. For example Yankee Stadium apparently throws you out of the ground or confiscates your vuvuzela if you try to take one in.

The Bakugan Battle Brawlers is one of the best boys toys at the moment. It combines merchandising with the TV show and the toys themselves are actually very high quality. Not only can your son play with the Bakugan alone, there is actually a game that can be played between two (or up to four) players. There are many places that have cheap Bakugan for sale so these are toys that need not break the bank.

If you have not heard of them before, they are kind of like mini-Transformers. But unlike Transformers where children have to change their forms themselves. Bakugan work differently. When they come into contact with a metallic surface they automatically pop open from a ball or other shape into their warrior formation.

To get your hands on cheap Bakugan, it is well worth comparing prices on Amazon. Of course actually taking a trip to the toy store with your son cana be very good fun in itself. But there are times, such as Christmas, where the convenience and low price of ordering online are well worth it.

To actually play the game, your son would need three Bakugan, three Gate Cards and three Ability Cards. If you buy a Bakugan Starter Pack you get enough for one player. Then if you buy a Bakugan Battle Pack, this contains enough toys and cards for two players. This is great if you are thinking about giving your son a game.

Then some of the other options are to get a Bakugan Booster Pack or purchase a Bakugan Trap. These are featured at the top of this page. The Booster Pack comes with one metallic Gate Card and the Trap comes with one metallic Gate Card and one Ability Card. Getting a Trap or a regular Bakugan in a Booster Pack is pretty much the cheapest way to get your hands on one of these toys. They only cost a few dollars and are a great way to help your son build up his collection. Or conversely, before you go out and buy one of the bigger packs, these single packs are a good way to find out what level of interest it looks like your boy will take in Bakugan.

It may sound confusing with talk of Gate and Ability Cards but in reality the game is actually quite simple. The aim is to be the first player to capture three Gate Cards. This involves finding out which player has the highest G-Power score when two Bakugan attack each other on one card. Their G-Power comes from the number written on their Bakugan warrior to which you then add a number from the Gate Card. Finally players may use their Ability Cards to have a further effect on the battle.

Any list of the best toys is going to be subjective and mine is no different. As far as I am concerned, any toy that my son loves playing with is one of the best boys toys. I must admit, it makes me extra happy when the toys he loves are ones that I love! All the toys that I discuss are available on Amazon. Personally I order online for convenience and for presents. When my son has money to spend himself I much prefer to take him to our local Toys R Us so he can look round the whole shop and pick out something for himself.

So what are the best boys toys?

It depends how old your son is as to what will be most suitable. Some of the toys that I am happy for my son to play with include LEGO, his Thomas the Tank Engine train set, Bakugan and NERF guns. Some of these toys are more peaceful than others. I am not one of those parents who feels that it is inappropriate to buy little boys toy guns. Some people argue that this pretend violence may lead to issues in later life. My own opinion is that they are simply toys and there are far more important things I must do as a father than keep my son away from NERF guns. To be honest, I think they are great fun too!

There are so many different LEGO sets these days including DUPLO, MindStorms, Toy Story, Star Wars, Lego City, Prince of Persia, Pirates and many more. I remember when I was young I had quite a lot of LEGO Knights. To me the combination of Star Wars and LEGO seems kind of strange. I collected both separately as a child. In effect, even though we may each have personal preferences as to what the best sets are, really any that your child enjoys playing with is a good one. LEGO is a great toy to encourage children’s powers of creativity and imagination. The fact that it has been around for years indicates that children and parents alike think this toy is good.

Train sets are another type of toy that have been around for years. The one that my son plays with is Thomas the Tank Engine. Almost every toy that he has in this range is really good quality. There is only one, the Quarry Mine Tunnel, that I am not 100% happy with. It is an up and down section of track and when I connect it with the regular bits of Thomas track, it does not sit flush. So as my son is driving his engines round, I just need to keep an eye on that section and sort it out occasionally. I think that this is one of the best train sets for little boys because the characters and the sets themselves tie in nicely with the Thomas and Friends TV show. It is great to have the train set out and have Thomas on the TV at the same time for a double dose!

Bakugan are a newer toy and probably will not have the longevity of the two discussed above. However even though they are more of a fad toy, I think they are really good. If you have not seen them yet, they are kind of like Transformers except you do not have to change them yourself. They simply spring open when they come into contact with a metallic surface. These are cheap toys to buy. Kids can play with them separately or can play the Bakugan game. This game is good for a couple of reasons. It is fun, in and of itself. At the same time it is also educational. This is because the gameplay involves elementary school level mental arithmetic. The best thing about this is that your son will not feel like he is doing his sums. He will simply feel like he is playing the Bakugan game, which is great because it means he will be doing math and having fun.

I also mentioned NERF guns earlier. For me, these are one of the best children’s toys. If you do not believe in buying toy guns for your kids then this is fine. However there are plenty of parents out there who think that playing with toy guns is fine. And these ones are some of the best you can get. NERF blasters shoot foam darts. It can hurt of you get shot point blank range so care must obviously be taken. The most fun can be had if both you and your son have a gun. You can buy a cheap NERF gun like the N-Strike Maverick. This is a good entry level gun that is easy to use.

This is certainly enough to get started. However to increase your shooting pleasure having loads more darts is beneficial. There are three different types of darts featured on this page. They are the Nerf Suction Darts, Nerf Clip System Darts and Nerf Whistler Darts. You must be careful to check whether the darts will actually fit your Nerf gun. The Suction and Whistler Darts fit the NERF NITE FINDER EX-3, N-STRIKE MAVERICK or N-STRIKE VULCAN EBF-25 blasters. The suction cup sticks to most surfaces for at least a few seconds which allows you to mark your target.

Nerf guns are aimed at children from 6 years and above. That said, my son is not yet six and I have no trouble with him playing with these toys. It is exciting taking him to the toy shop to see what he wants to get. This is a day out in itself. However if you do not have time to take your boy to the toy shop then you can get cheap toys, including Nerf Darts on Amazon.

If you compare prices online you will find that Amazon are offering a really good deal on this popular Nerf gun. They are great fun to play with together with your son. Of course this means you might have to get two of them. But even still you should still find the cost reasonable.

Even with just one Nerf gun, you can play Nerf hide and seek, Nerf cops and robbers and so on. The Maverick Blaster comes with six darts with suction cups on the end of them. It is an easy gun to load and fire. You may think that it is too big for your son but if you get this Nerf gun you will see that it is actually very light weight. They are aimed at children who are six years and above. The only drawback to ordering this gun is that it is so cheap it does not qualify for free shipping from Amazon. You would have to order something else to qualify. There are actually other things that you may want to purchase at the same time as the Maverick. For example a pack of NERF Whistler Darts which make a whistling sound as they fly through the air. Very cool!

As an entry level Nerf gun, the Maverick is a great choice, it is cheap, easy to operate and is light weight. I know that some parents are not keen on buying weapons for their children and that is fine. Personally I do not have the view that it will make my son become a violent person if I buy him toy guns. I think that these guns are some of the best boys toys and are great fun for both me and my son to play with. This is why I buy Nerf guns for my son.
